In addition to her busy media career, Léonie blogs about modern Québecois family life at Roby et Cie.

How did you dress as a child? What was your favorite thing to wear?

I have two brothers, so as a child I wanted to be just like them. I hated dresses and skirts, I was wearing skate shoes and board shorts. I was a real tomboy!

You have $500 to spend on your wardrobe. What do you buy?

If you don’t have your three classics (see the question below), then that would be what you have to buy with $500! But I pretty much have all my classics and a couple of trendy items, so with that money I would buy my first really nice purse. I’d say a classic Louis Vuitton, which costs more than $500, but you know, something like that.

What’s the biggest change in the way you’ve shopped for clothes?

Since I’m a mom, I buy differently. I buy less and more thoughtfully since my money doesn’t all go in my clothes! I also prefer classic items and some trendy pieces rather then having all the coolest clothes and just a few “normal” clothes. I’m still being the edgy me, going for more surprising thing by times, but most of the time I prefer a perfect comfortable and classic outfit. I’m always running after my kid, having him in my arms, and right now being pregnant with the second one, I can’t always wear what I want.

What’s the most important style item to invest in?

I’d say a nice pair of jeans, a pair of comfortable Chelsea boots and a perfect leather jacket are the three things everyone should have in their wardrobe. It’s three classics that probably won’t ever be out, that you can always wear to make sure your outfit is on point and you feel good in.

What’s the biggest mistake people make when shopping for clothes?

Being too boring and staying in their comfort zone. It’s perfect to be comfortable and make sure you like what you wear, but an outfit in which you feel different, alive, confident, and something colorful is really the best! You should always go and buy that outfit that you’re like “is it too much?”

Tell us something about yourself that people are usually surprised to hear.

If I had more money, more time, and a job where I had more occasions to pull out some outfits, I would definitely put my edgy side more to the test. I lovvveeee to be creative with what I wear and try some new fun things, but I don’t often have the occasion to.

What is the most underappreciated item in a woman’s wardrobe?

Probably a really nice sweater. It’s usually the item you wear just casually or over the weekend, but if you mix it well and do some nice layering, put on some heels and the perfect skinny jeans, it can be a great outfit!
