Trouvaille means “a lucky find” in French and that’s exactly what this bespoke online shopping experience is – seriously, try it once and you’ll be hooked.
What’s the big deal? Well, for starters Trouvaille is kind of like having your very own super stylish personal shopper at your fingertips. Britt’s vision for this game-changing platform makes fashion choices easy and encourages women to live in style.
This fashion dynamo is a perfect fit for Cougar so we were thrilled to have an exclusive chat with Britt and dish on everything from Vivian Winter boots and her Cougar picks for spring to the one clothing item every woman should own…
What was your first Cougar Shoes moment?
It was wearing the Vivian Winter Boot this past winter. Not only do they look great, but the waterproof soles and fur lining kept me warm and dry all season. I love them!
That means a lot given your very impressive fashion pedigree.
For over a decade, I worked in fashion with luxury retailers, both in Canada and the U.S.
I created online content when social media was just beginning and it was great because I got to travel to fashion capitals each season to develop content and plan editorial strategy. I loved seeing looks come down the runway and then, within a day or so, touching the products and getting to see them up close in showrooms.
How did that inspire Trouvaille?
With the dramatic growth in online shopping, it seemed like there was a hole in the Canadian market, and that we could add value by helping women navigate the overwhelming world of online shopping and simplify the search. Given my background, I constantly had friends approaching me to help them shop and for styling advice, so I figured I was on to something and that we could be a valuable resource.
Who is the Trouvaille woman?
I think she’s very much like the Cougar woman: busy and strapped for time. She is style conscious, between 25 to 50, busy building her career, growing her family and fostering her personal and business relationships. She has very little time to spend searching the web for a “perfect find” and will use Trouvaille as a convenient and trusted site with an already expertly curated collection of “perfect finds.”
That sounds like a shopping dream come true.
We like to think so! I want women to buy less and choose well. We try to offer a wide variety of products with a focus on classic, simple pieces that have staying power. We pride ourselves on being trusted style advisors.
On top of all of that, you’re also a mom. Are they any new challenges for dressing as a mom?
I think my style has stayed pretty consistent. I’ve always taken a less-is-more approach to dressing. I would describe my style as unfussy and simple. I feel the most myself in a pair of vintage denims and a white blouse. It’s all about the art of the mix: invest in classic, timeless pieces, save on trendier items.
What Cougar kicks are you coveting for spring?
There are so many! My top pick has to be the Kensington Chelsea Boot in Walnut. I love the colour and think they’ll be the perfect footwear for tackling our unpredictable Canadian spring weather. I plan on wearing my Kensingtons with a great cropped trouser or pair of jeans and a statement trench.
“I plan on wearing my Kensingtons with a great cropped trouser or pair of jeans and a statement trench.”
I love the Kensington too and, given its palette range of a dozen colours, always find it hard to choose just one.
I know! I chose Walnut but also really like it in Dove; Black/White; and Black/Charcoal.
Other than a great boot, is there one thing every woman should have in her wardrobe?
A crisp white blouse. We recently partnered with Alfred Sung to create our take on the perfect white shirt. With dramatic voluminous sleeves, a detailed dropped shoulder and classic finishes, it’s the ultimate wardrobe staple (perfect for any occasion).
What’s the secret to living in style?
It isn’t just about your fashion choices, but also how you style your home, entertain, travel and eat. It’s all about simplifying and being confident in your own skin.
Speaking of travel, you curated the Cougar Gatineau for your website’s ski-getaway feature.
Yes – the Gatineau boot offers a little polish to your winter look. The patent leather and faux-fur trim will keep you warm in style.
Ok – enough about winter. What fashion will you be investing in this spring?
Versatile and impactful styles with staying power, like Bermuda shorts, easy silhouettes with bold retro prints or innovative draping and sculptural puffy sleeves.
Oh, and of course, my walnut Kensington Chelsea Boots!
